Satellite Beach, FL is a small beachside town located on the Atlantic Coast of Florida. It is known for its beautiful white-sanded beaches, colorful sunsets, and friendly locals. Although it may seem like a laidback paradise, the politics of Satellite Beach are quite active and diverse. The city is governed by a mayor who is elected to serve a three-year term and five Council Members who are each elected for two-year terms. In addition to the elected officials, various departments in the City government oversee important local services such as public safety, neighborhood preservation, economic development, and utility services. All of these departments work together to ensure that Satellite Beach remains an inviting and vibrant place to live. Local residents stay informed about what’s happening in their community through public “town hall” meetings and other forms of communication with their elected representatives. Additionally, political organizations such as the Democratic and Republican parties hold regular meetings in Satellite Beach to discuss matters of importance to local residents. Here at BestPlaces, we were looking at the voting patterns since the 2000 election and realized that we could express the results of each election as one letter. R if the Republican Party candidate won, D if the Democratic Party candidate won and I if the Independent Party candidate won. The six elections (2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020) would be expressed as six-letter word (R R D R R).

Then we went a little further and added the dimension of magnitude. If the difference of victory was greater than 10 percent, the letter is upper case, and lower case if the difference was less than 10 percent. This allows us to see interesting voting patterns at just a glance.
